xx enemies

    Ok, here's something interesting that happened:



    I got a scroll that told me there were 11 enemies nearby.

    So, I go into the next room, see three monsters, and kill

    them.  I go into an adjacent room, and get the same scroll.

    This time, it tells me that there is only 1 enemy nearby.

    What's the deal here?  I only killed three things.  That

    particular scroll must only look at a couple of rooms or

    something...

    do scrolls tell you about what is on the next level?

    one scroll was detect life, the other was detect undead.

    they both worked properly.
